Professor Philip VanderMeerProfessor Philip VanderMeer has taught history at Arizona State University since 1985. He has written widely on the history of legislative leadership, state politics, and Arizona. His first book, The Hoosier Politician, and several articles studied the legislators and leadership in the Indiana General Assembly. He has written a comparison of state legislatures and Congress, as well as articles on other legislative leaders, ranging from Gold Democrats of Michigan to Senator Hiram Johnson of California. He has authored an essay on “The Historical Patterns of Arizona Leadership” as well as a brief sketch of Arizona’s Lorna Lockwood. He has published two histories of Phoenix: Phoenix Rising (2002) and Desert Visions (2010).
